Assault On John Connor – 30 October 1791

The following is another account of the violence on account of the tax on whiskey. The other week, a man by the name of John Connor was tarred-and-feathered. To add insult to injury, he was left blindfolded and tied up in the middle of the forest. He stayed there, stuck, for five hours until someone found him.

The reason he was targeted was because he was serving court summons to two of the participants in the tar-and-feathering of Robert Johnson. After the assault, he resigned his post. Ultimately, it doesn’t look like those two men will get the justice the law says they deserve.
