After the constitutional army came, they swiftly arrested around 150 men involved in the uprising. Later, on the 29th, a general pardon was issued, except for 33 of the leaders. This is definitely the end of the rebellion.


I’d like to offer here some of my thoughts about how the situation degenerated. In my eyes, as the federal government continued to do nothing concrete about the situation, the rebels became more emboldened, and thus precipitated more and more violence. If the government had not acted when it did, Western Pennsylvania may have ended up seceding, and there was indeed talk of that possibility. However, once the federal government stepped in, the insurrection promptly ended. Although I still hope that the tax will be repealed, I still agree that the rebels were in the wrong.
